In November 2010, Kulthorn Kirby received a Gold Award at the annual Thailand 5S Awards presentation. Sponsored by the Technology Promotion Association (Thailand–Japan), this award recognizes high achievement by companies in accordance with 5S principles. An essential component of Lean Manufacturing, 5S is the name of a Japanese workplace system based on five Japanese words – seiri, seiton, seiso, seiketsu and shitsuki. The English equivalent words or phrases also start with S. Sorting, straightening or setting in order, systematic cleaning or shining, standardizing and sustaining. Sometimes three other words are added – safety, security and satisfaction.
